Essential Job Functions

A Dispatcher I is responsible for a combination of the following essential job functions:

  • Closely monitors pump plant and sewer telemetry systems, notifying appropriate personnel when problems arise.
  • Documents all requests and occurrences and maintains a complete log of all actions taken during an assigned shift.
  • Receives and documents complaints and information received concerning problems that occur and report this to the supervisor as appropriate.
  • Monitors departments closed circuit television and burglar alarm systems and determines when to notify appropriate personnel.
  • Evaluates, selects, and acts immediately upon the most urgent multiple messages received from County employees and the public.
  • Monitors field units location to expedite notification of routine and emergency service requests.
  • Provides information and assistance to callers regarding requests for service.
  • Performs routine clerical and other computer-related duties as required.


Requirements

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
Six months experience in an occupation such as a radio or telephone operator, dispatcher, or announcer, requiring constant use of a radiotelephone or telephone and operation of a computer keyboard.

PHYSICAL CLASS: Physical Class II- Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:

The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
