Position Scope

Under general supervision, provides support for the audio/visual infrastructure under the purview of the city’s Information Technology Department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Maintains, repairs and replaces audio/visual equipment in City conference rooms, Council Chambers, and offices; sets up rooms, ensuring audio/visual equipment is operating properly before and during meetings.
  • Ensures audio/visual and associated Shure and Extron equipment is properly working in the Council Chambers, program rooms, and conference rooms; provide backup for City departments to record meetings as requested; coordinate with City departments in providing audio visual to the Council Chambers.
  • Manages issues with the product vendor to address problems with delivered functionality, may include providing documentation, conducting testing or similar types of activities.
  • Trouble-shoots, programs, repairs and maintains audio/visual equipment and the associated software; provides support with cabling and basic network functions.
  • Must have the ability to work after hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Performs cabling installation for data, telephone and audio/visual equipment; activates data and telephone jacks by patching cable in the equipment rooms.
  • Performs cable tests/certifications as necessary for data and audio/visual cabling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Minimum Qualifications & Position Requirements

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and two (2) years’ experience in any of the following areas:
  • Installing, programming, troubleshooting and repairing audio/visual and telephone equipment.
  • Working with cabling, Voice over IP and digital telephones.
  • Customer Service

OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the primary duties and responsibilities.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • City policies and procedures.
  • Audio visual systems and interconnection within the system and network interfaces.
  • Principles of documentation and records management.

Skill in and Ability to:
  • Run, terminate, and test all cabling.
  • Using specialty tools to terminate cable.
  • Extron DSP and Control systems.
  • Shure and Sennheiser management systems.
  • OBS streaming software.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City staff.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Following and effectively communicating technically complex instructions.


Additional Information

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Arizona Drivers’ License.

Physical Demands / Work Environment: Standard office environment. Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling may be required.

Reports To: IT Operations Manager

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

12-Month Goals:
  • Familiarize yourself with City policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively run the Council meeting productions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to run and terminate data cabling.
  • Complete and stay up to date with Vector LMS and Training, SafePersonnel Edition.
  • Familiarize yourself with the many geographical locations within the organization.
  • Create support documentation/SOP for customers as well as technical guides for other members of the team
