The Department of Public Health is recruiting for a Public Health Dentist who provides routine and emergency dental services, including the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.

Public Health Dentists perform the following duties:
  • Perform routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, preventive dental services, general restorative procedures (fillings), denture adjustments, periodontal (deep cleanings), basic endodontics (root canals), and minor oral surgery (extractions)
  • Administers and prescribes anesthetics and medications
  • Refers patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate and ensure follow-up with patient care
  • Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements
  • Manages and directs all ancillary clinical services and dental staff
  • Ensures all clinical services functions achieve expected clinical and productivity outcomes
  • Provides leadership in related quality improvement activities
  • Implements and evaluates operational and administrative processes
  • Ensures the delivery of all dental treatment and care is consistent with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards, including clinic policies and quality initiatives
  • Provides leadership and direction related to clinical collaborative, studies, programs, or research related initiatives that improve the lives of our patients as well as the communities in which they live

As an alternative to the traditional benefits package, you may also be eligible to elect the Modified Benefit Option (MBO) that provides an increased base rate of pay ($1.75 per hour above the base rate of pay) with modified benefits. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.

Travel: Travel throughout the County and State may be required. Employees will be required to make provisions for local transportation; travel throughout the State will be at the provision of the employer. Mileage reimbursement is available. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained throughout employment.
Physical: Requires physical demands such as, balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, standing, stooping, turning, twisting and walking long distances both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; hand and finger dexterity in both hands; ability to manipulate heavy duty security locks and doors; reaching or working above and below shoulder level; normal vision, including color discrimination; normal hearing; and carrying up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions: Involves exposure to hazardous and infectious materials and communicable diseases.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

License:
Possession of a current license as a Dentist by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.

Certificate: a Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate

DEA Authorization: Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) authorization to prescribe all necessary medication

Experience: Completion of two years in dental practice, exclusive of internship.
