THE POSITION The Department of Utilities has three Water Conservation Representatives that are assigned to either the North, Central or Southern portion of the City and handle incoming service requests involving either a customer leak investigation or water waste concern. IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT The ideal candidate for the Water Conservation Representative position can work independently and consistently. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the variety of the City’s Water Conservation services and rebate programs and is comfortable navigating online resources. The ideal candidate will be comfortable interacting one-on-one with customers to resolve conflicts that may include walking inside and outside customer homes by appointment to troubleshoot issues. Under close supervision incumbents in this position investigate complaints of water waste, conduct and audit meter reads and irrigation systems for issues and provide customers with educational information. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is an entry-level class in the Water Conservation series populated with multiple incumbents. Promotes conservation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. Responsible for interpreting the park's historical significance and biodiversity to a variety of audiences. Researches, plans, and conducts interpretive programs, tours, hikes, special events, and promotes outreach programs with schools, civic groups, scouts, and other organizations. Assists with the park's public outreach effort. Assists with the park's promotional efforts through social media and other outlets. Assists with managing the park's volunteer program, including both day volunteers and park hosts. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree. Experience: No experience required. ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS Education: One year of experience in interpretation or conducting educational programs may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Conservation, Range Management, Forestry, Biology, Geology, Anthropology/Archeology, History, or closely related field. Experience: Experience in customer service; Experience in park operations; Experience in interpretation or conducting educational programs. Licensure: Currently a Certified Interpretive Guide, Certified Interpretive Host, or possession of a similar certification from the National Association for Interpretation (NAI).
