Pay Range: $ 82,319 - $107,014 annual compensation

Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday- Friday, with occasional weekend and evening assignments.

A District Superintendent job is available with the City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department. This position will oversee at least seven community centers and assigned special projects. The Park & Recreation Department maintains more than 300 parks and public spaces citywide as well as providing recreational activities and educational programming that makes Fort Worth a great place to live, work and play.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Park and Recreation Administration, Recreation, Business Management, Park Management, Landscape Architecture or a related field
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in park operation, landscape architectural design of small park capital projects, community recreational programming,
  • Two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
  • Valid Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong background in recreation programming, community/recreation center management, and supervision of teams is highly desired.
  • Ability to work on complex projects; including Capital projects involving construction and renovation of facilities.
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional
  • Master’s Degree in Public or Business Administration, Management or Project Management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating youth needs to create programs that provide character development.

The District Superintendent job responsibilities include:
  • Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
  • Assumes management responsibility for assigned district as it relates to community center programming, as well as other collaborative initiatives generated by the department, agencies and citizens.
  • Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned programs; recommends and administers policies and procedures; and initiates collaborative events and programs with other agencies and organizations.
  • Oversees and participates in the development and administration of the division's annual budget; participates in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; and implements adjustments. District budget accounts for approximately $3,000,000 of division’s $12,000,000 expenditure budget.
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of assigned city service programs, service delivery methods and procedures; and works with employees on the continuous improvement of city services.
  • Serves as the liaison for assigned district with other divisions, departments and outside agencies. Negotiates and resolves sensitive and controversial issues. Oversees building and facility maintenance within assigned district.
  • Responds to internal and external customer and citizen inquiries. Meets with community groups to discuss issues; provides support for a variety of park events; and resolves customer complaints. Serves as staff on a variety of boards, commissions and committees; prepares and presents administrative, statistical, activity reports and other necessary correspondence; and provides staff assistance to the Assistant Director of Park & Recreation and/or Capital Projects/Infrastructure manager.
  • Conducts a variety of organizational studies, investigations and operational studies. Recommends modifications to recreational programs, policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Supervises promotional and marketing activities for the district; and maintains community interest and support of district programs and other projects.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
