Job Description

Location: Central Office - 123 Robert S Kerr Ave, Oklahoma City, OK

Salary: Up to $80,548.00 based on education and experience.

Full Time /Part Time: Full Time

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday

Primary Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Position Description: Architect III’s are assigned responsibilities involving the planning, organizing and direction of a statewide architectural, interior design and construction program for a state agency; coordinates the activities of outside professional consultants and contractors.

Duties:
  • Conducts and/or directs complex architectural studies and surveys for the formulation of program policies, procedures and standards, prepares technical reports and recommendations.
  • Organizes, directs and reviews the work of architectural, interior design, electrical and construction inspection staff regarding conceptual designs, final designs, working drawings, specifications, addenda, cost estimates and change orders for the construction or modification of department facilities; ensures adherence to applicable regulations, directives and standards.
  • Provides consultation and guidance to division directors, the executive director and other officials to assist in establishing future design programs, budgets and project requirements.
  • Interviews and selects outside professional contractors, architects and/or engineers for selected projects.
  • Serves as liaison between consulting engineers and architectural firms and the agency; provides professional guidance and technical advice to consultants; schedules and coordinates their work; approves reports, designs and/or construction documents to ensure that agency standards, program guidelines, schedules and applicable laws are adhered to.
  • Serves as architect for both in-house projects and for projects constructed by outside contractors; determines when the services of a licensed professional engineer and licensed architect are required.
  • Coordinates and directs the inspection of work at both contractor and in-house project sites; makes personal investigations and/or plan-in-hand inspections to check work force levels, materials, methods, and adherence to plans, specifications and contract documents.
  • Reviews requests for payment made by outside contractors and consultants for approval or disapproval; conducts field inspections and plan and specification reviews.
  • Conducts meetings to convey organizational information, policies, procedures, goals and strategies, schedules, standards, and priorities.
  • Conducts and/or arranges training on design and construction industry practices and procedures for personnel development purposes.
  • Manages and directs outside consultants for all state agencies for minor construction projects.
  • Recommends state code adoption and reviews plans and specifications of state agencies for code compliance.
  • Provides technical guidance on existence of hazardous materials.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in architecture and registration as a licensed architect in the State of Oklahoma plus an additional three (3) years of experience as a licensed architect; or a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and an additional five (5) years of experience as a licensed architect. ## Note: Registration is granted by the state through the Board of Governors of Licensed Architects and Landscape Architects of Oklahoma. The requirements for registration as a licensed architect are in accordance with the 59 O.S. Supp. 1988, Section 46.24.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: This position is set in an office environment, computer based. While performing the duties of the job, employees are frequently required to stand, walk, lift, and reach.

Telework: This position is not eligible for Telework and is subject to OSDH policy and supervisor’s discretion.
