Job Description

The Irvine Police Department is conducting a recruitment for a Public Safety Supervisor responsible for supervising a multidisciplinary team that supports mental health, substance abuse/addiction, and homeless outreach programs. This includes supervision of a mobile crisis response team.

Your Impact

  • Oversees staffing, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Reviews cases with team members, providing guidance on treatment plans and support services, and trains team members in multidisciplinary approaches.
  • Supervises case management and treatment services in various settings, assigning staff, and overseeing treatment plans.
  • Stays current on relevant laws and regulations, ensuring compliance and informing staff.
  • Liaisons with government, community agencies, and private providers to explain programs and foster cooperation.
  • Reviews medical records and reports for quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • May provide direct client services if professionally licensed.
  • May oversee multiple program locations through subordinate supervisors or contract managers.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in Business Administration, Police Science, or related field with four years' experience in Records, Forensics or Regulatory Affairs & Business including two years' experience in a lead or supervisory capacity, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possess, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.

Preferred Education and Training (One of more of these qualifications is highly desirable)

  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Clinical Social Worker issued by the State of California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners and four years of professional social work experience, at least two years of which is post masters in a clinic setting appropriate to the service.
  • Possession of a valid license as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners and four years of professional work experience, at least two years of which is post master's in a clinic setting appropriate to the service.
  • Possession of a valid License as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing and either: possession of a master's degree from an accredited college in psychiatric or public health nursing and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a mental health and/or substance abuse setting; or bachelor's degree in nursing and four years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a mental health and/or substance abuse setting.
  • Either possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or a Psychiatric Technician issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners, or a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; and six years of post-licensure experience in a setting appropriate to the service.
  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology and four years of post-doctoral experience in a mental health setting.
