Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Collects coins from parking meters, operates counting machines to sort, count, bag and record coin and currency receipts, and reports broken meters for maintenance and repair. Responds to inquiries, complaints and requests from the public.

*Current vacancy is for 20 hours per week with pro-rated benefits. The eligibility list that is established from this recruitment will be used to fill all vacancies that occur during the duration of the eligibility list.

Representative Duties

Pushes a heavy sealed coin cart throughout the City, walking long distances to collect money from parking meters on streets and parking structures. Reports broken meters for maintenance and repair.

Operates counting machines and printers to sort, count, bag and record coin and currency receipts.

Prepares coin bag tags and monitors inventory of tags. Seals, lifts and stacks heavy coin bags on pallets, prepares order forms, and ensures that coin bags are ready for pick up. Delivers coin bags to armored truck and ensures that receipts are properly completed and signed.

Cleans, maintains and makes minor adjustments to coin machines. Reports malfunctioning equipment and calls for repair services.

Transports coin collection carts.

Drives City vehicles or walks to various coin collection routes.

Assists in servicing coin changers, as required.

Performs simple meter repairs and reports unusual events or problems on routes to appropriate staff.

Responds to inquiries complaints and requests from the public and makes referrals to appropriate sources, as necessary.

Follows applicable safety rules and regulations.

Performs other related duties, as assigned

Requirements

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Knowledge of:
Basic mathematics.
General office practices and procedures.
Safe work practices and procedures.
Effective customer service techniques.

Ability to:
Follow oral and written instructions.
Perform routine tasks independently.
Perform simple mechanical repairs.
Learn and apply operating principles of parking meters, coin counters and coin sorters.
Demonstrate physical dexterity to lift objects of up to 50 lbs and maneuver carts of up to 175 lbs.
Walk long distances for prolonged periods of time.
Safely drive a City vehicle.
Safely transport coin collection carts.
Communicate effectively with the public.
Provide effective customer service.
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees and the general public.

Skill in:
Peforming basic mathematical computations.
Reading, writing, and communicating at an appropriate level.

Education, Training and Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. One year of recent, paid work experience performing customer service duties which included frequent contact with the public and working independenly with minimal supervison. Six months recent work experience performing cashiering duties is desirable.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid class C driver license.
