The Position

Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.

Incumbents recommend and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements as permitted by program regulations and guidelines; and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or a staff consisting of several students, volunteers and/or contract staff.

The Community Nutrition Program Officer I position, with the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), is stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada. Under direction of the Community Nutrition Supervisor, the Program Officer I will assist with the administration of the Child and Adult Food Program and the Summer Food Service Program to program operators such as child and adult care institution, schools, local government agencies, camps, faith-based and other non-profit community organizations. This support includes delivering services, correspondence and technical guidance. The Program Officer I will assist with virtual and on-site Administrative Reviews, desk audits, monitor progress and ensure sponsors are complying with USDA program requirements. The position will also collect, analyze and report Child Nutrition programs' related data; determine eligibility of program sponsors and sites; review sponsor applications for completeness and approve or deny sponsor site applications; assist in reviewing and approving claim reimbursements; determine meal reimbursement rates; collect and organize data for USDA reports; provide technical assistance and training for web-based systems; disseminate promotional materials and file electronic documents. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A State of Nevada/FBI fingerprint based background check is required as a condition of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
