The Position

Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators.

Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept to include journey level duties such as extensive electrical and fuel system diagnosis and repair work, rebuilding complete transmissions, converting surplus military vehicles to fire apparatus, and performing mechanical inspections of vehicles involved in accidents. Incumbents may provide training, work direction and review to semi-skilled equipment shop staff such as Equipment Mechanic I's, Fleet Service Workers, students, and inmate workers. This is the journey level in the series.

This position is within the Department of Administration, Fleet Services Division. The division operates a fast-paced light duty fleet repair facility. The incumbent will diagnose and perform all phases of light duty automotive repair including but not limited to: braking systems, perform preventive maintenance; input work orders; maintain inventory; maintain daily vehicle repair schedule; charging, starting, steering, suspension, and HVAC systems; drivability; electrical; engine; chassis; and tires. Great customer service, computer skills, and attention to detail is manditory. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprentice-ship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR one year experience as an Equipment Mechanic I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
