About the Position:
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is home to the valley's premier destination for all things trains. It is a unique site featuring multiple rides including two miniature railroads and one antique carousel, a historical railroad museum, model railroad building and two play areas. This location also hosts a variety of special events throughout the year providing family fun for the community. There are multiple opportunities to provide excellent customer service in the areas of ride operations, ticket and souvenir sales, museums. Areas of operations include Food & Beverage, Front Desk, and Ride Operations.
Essential duties for each area are listed below:

Food & Beverage Operations
The recreation leader I concession position provides excellent customer service to our guests. Staff need to be able to multitask, operate various cooking equipment, prepare food and beverages, and scoop ice cream. Other duties include cleaning, cash handling and stocking. This position also assists with multiple events throughout the year. Work schedules can vary depending on the needs of the facility; however, special events and weekends are required.
  • Have a valid food handler's certificate or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • Provides friendly environment for co-workers and guests, communicating positively with all age groups, city staff and the public.
  • Takes orders, prepares, cooks and serves quick, easy to make food and drinks, as well as scoop ice cream.
  • Ensure that all food is being refrigerated, cooked and held at the correct temperatures according to Maricopa County Health Department.
  • Safely operate and clean concession equipment.
  • Other cleaning duties can include wiping counters, tables, chairs, walls and fan blades, sweeps and/or mop floors.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time, stoop, bend and lift up to 50 pounds as well as scoop ice cream requiring repetitive arm/hand movement.
  • Operates a cash register and performs simple mathematical calculations.
  • Maintain the safety and security of facility, reporting any maintenance, repairs, or safety issues to a supervisor.
  • Be able to work day, evening, weekends, holidays and events.
Front Desk Operations
The recreation leader I front desk position provides excellent customer service to our guests. Staff will need to be able to operate a point-of-sale system, selling tickets and souvenirs. Other duties include cleaning, cash handling and stocking. This position also assists with multiple events throughout the year. Work schedules can vary depending on the needs of the facility; however, special events and weekends are required.
  • Provides friendly environment for co-workers and guests, communicating positively with all age groups, city staff and the public.
  • Be able to work individually and as a member of a team.
  • Ensure the lobby and work environment is clean, stocked and organized.
  • Cleaning duties can include wiping counters, display units, trash cans and storage areas, and sweeping the floors.
  • Answer phones, take detailed messages, complete daily spreadsheets and respond to emails.
  • Process memberships and special event registrations for customers.
  • Re-stock souvenir items and assist with inventory
  • Operates a cash register and performs simple mathematical calculations.
  • Maintain the safety and security of facility, reporting any maintenance, repairs, or safety issues to a supervisor.
  • Be able to work day, evening, weekends, holidays and events.
Ride Operations
The Recreation Leader I rides position will assist with the daily operations of the park, train and carousel rides, and upkeep of the facilities, including general cleaning and trash removal, and special shift event coverage. Work schedules can vary depending on the needs of the facility, however special events and weekends are required.
Provide exceptional customer service to make each visitor's experience the best possible.
  • Open and/or close facility and complete opening/closing check list each day.
  • Greet and welcome each visitor.
  • Take tickets, load passengers, and recite safety speeches for riders on the miniature train and carousel rides.
  • Be available to help and share our history and park information.
  • Keep count and log the number of riders and ride trips each day.
  • Observe park patrons for any issues that may arise.
  • Assist with shift coverage for special events. Help with set up, tear down and clean up as needed.
  • Maintain general cleanliness of facility, including roving the park to assist visitors, doing laundry, restocking and sprucing bathrooms, cleaning windows and equipment, sweeping, picking up trash in and around facility, emptying and cleaning trash receptacle.
  • Maintain safety and security of facility, reporting any maintenance, repairs, or safety issues to supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • No education or experience required for this position.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
  • Preferred: Customer service experience.
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/section assignment.

Essential Functions

  • Enforces and explains policies and procedures to park patrons in all areas of the park; handles complaints; observes patrons in the parks including the building facility; observes patron/program participants' behavior and safety hazards of the grounds/facility.
  • Monitors sites, picking up paper and trash.
  • Performs routine clerical functions such as delivering flyers and answering phones or general office work.
  • Participates in planning, conducting, and evaluating: events, projects, and programs.
  • Roves/maintains security & safety of facilities throughout the shift.
  • Performs cashier duties during scheduled shift, which includes: greeting customers, answering the phone, handling customer inquiries, accepting payment of fees, handling cash according to City policy and procedures, issuing passes, and completing all necessary reporting and record keeping documentation.

  • Work is performed in a City office environment, park facility, and outside in park area.
  • Physical agility to conduct various recreation activities.
  • Lifts, carries, and sets up: tables, chairs, sound and lighting equipment, craft and art materials, recreation equipment, and other equipment (weighing 20-50 pounds).
  • Accesses paved, gravel, or turf park areas.
  • Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving continuous periods of time. Work sometimes involves climbing elevations; requires moderate muscular exertion and lifting.
  • Physically move around in all areas of the park over rough, uneven terrain.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, and temperature extremes.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including: computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
  • Works days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
