Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field, plus five (5) years of experience in constituent services, community outreach, or other professional/administrative capacity.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

Austin City Council District 6 is seeking a skilled and experienced Constituent Liaison. This position will act as an introduction to District 6’s mission by demonstrating their commitment to being a model of responsive public service. The ideal candidate has a passion and ability to quickly respond to constituent inquires; coordinate with City departmental staff on constituent casework, and serve as the first point of contact for anyone who calls or stops by the District office.

This position will document the type of requests made by constituents; make appropriate referrals to respective departments in the district and elsewhere across the City; track the process and share the status of the case with the referring constituent; and report the outcome so that the office can run reports to help identify issue trends and patters to inform a variety of stakeholders. In addition to serving the needs of District 6 through referrals and case management, this position will also build and maintain a directory of resources. This position also serves to gauge constituent satisfaction with District 6’s service level and programs, allowing this position to provide timely information to other departments to help further the mission of District 6.

The Constituent Liaison also manages Councilwoman Kelly’s schedule, coordinates meeting and events, compiles public information requests, and manages record keeping.

Assessment:

Travel:
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
Pay Range
$27.00 - $31.00
Hours
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Hours will vary depending on operational needs. Some evenings/weekends may be required.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


  • Serves as the point of contact for the District Office by meeting with constituents via phone or in-person. Provides follow-up to inquiries and tracks calls and other correspondence.
  • Prepares and reviews written correspondence, speeches, and other informational material.
  • Acts a liaison between the Council Office, City departments and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Performs case management by tracking, updating and reporting on outstanding issues; escalates issues when appropriate.
  • Facilitates the handling of time-sensitive requests.
  • Conducts research, compiles data, and prepares reports.
  • Manages appointments, meeting requests, calendars and other day-to-day issues.
  • Maintains records
  • Coordinates logistics for speaking engagements and other community meetings.
  • Attends meetings and provides assistance during meetings and attends to needs and requests of Council.
  • Other duties as assigned
