Position Summary:
Coordinates pharmacy services in specific hospital or clinic areas such as inpatient, trauma, IV additives, outpatient, satellite clinics, etc.. Duties include staff supervision, operations management, and quality control. May serve as managing pharmacist for satellite areas, if required by law. This position also performs the duties of a Pharmacist responsible for interpreting, compounding, filling and dispensing prescriptions.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and four (4) years of journey-level experience as a pharmacist.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid Nevada State Board of Pharmacy License.

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Policy writing experience


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Federal, state and county laws and regulations governing area of assignment; federal, state and county laws and regulations related to the compounding, dispensing, storage and use of medications; pharmacy standards of practice; supervisory principles and practices; controlled substance record keeping and reporting; drug indications and drug interactions; compounding techniques; aseptic techniques; physical properties of drugs; mainframe and personal computers; principles and practices of modern supervision; current principles of management; fiscal management techniques; department and hospital safety practices and principles; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; age specific patient care practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:
Supervising assigned staff effectively; facilitating resolution of conflicts among staff; applying budget principles and practices; identifying and implementing department goals and objectives; solving problems; evaluating levels of service and areas of improvement effectively; utilizing personal computers for data management and information dissemination; reading and interpreting physicians' orders; reading patient's clinical diagnosis and recommending most appropriate medication; re-prioritizing work in response to changing situation; handling, disposing and managing hazardous materials; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
