The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a PART-TIME (20 to 28 hours/week) FMLA Human Resources Assistant to assist in administering and coordinating the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for the City while ensuring compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.

Please Note:

Applicants MUST have prior work experience administering and coordinating Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) claims.

This position will remain open until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

The City offers a wide variety of benefits to employees. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Guides managers and employees on the FMLA process;
  • Provides employees with appropriate FMLA forms and information;
  • Receives and reviews FMLA leave requests;
  • Works with employees to ensure all relevant medical documentation is completed and submitted for timely review;
  • Assists with processing completed physician certifications or re-certifications and return to work;
  • Monitors open FMLA leave cases; tracks the use of FMLA leave;
  • Maintains contact with employees on leave and communicates employee return to work with the employee's department;
  • Maintains FMLA-related documentation in employees' confidential files in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and Employee Privacy guidelines;
  • Generates reports as required;
  • Drafts and issues signed leave of absence decision letters;
  • Administers city-specific leave of absences;
  • Provide leave time usage balances on a request basis;
  • Performs related work as required.


JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Associate’s degree in Human Resources or related field.One (1) or more years of FMLA claims administration. Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.Familiarity with federal and state laws related to the administration of FMLA from a Human Resources standpoint.Ability to maintain confidentiality of data and employee interactions.Intermediate or higher level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite. PREFERENCES: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field
Three (3) years or more of FMLA claims administration is strongly preferred.

Special Requirements:

Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine who will be required to work.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Position is mostly sedentary but may involve short periods of walking, standing and bending.
