Selection Procedure

The following is a tentative schedule of events that will occur as part of the selection process:
  • Applications may be accepted from August 20, 2024, through August 30, 2024.
  • Screening for minimum qualifications will take place the week of September 2, 2024.
  • Clerical exams are tentatively scheduled for the week of September 10, 2024.
  • Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of September 16, 2024.

What's this Job All About?
This department is highly diverse in the operations of the Clerk-Recorder-Elections functions. We provide a wide range of services, including issuing marriage licenses, conducting marriage ceremonies, and filing fictitious business names, notary publics, process servers, oaths of office, environmental review documents and other public notices.

The Recorder is responsible for the protection of the public’s real property interest, including deeds and for examining, imaging, indexing and archiving all official records recorded and filed with Colusa County. The Recorder is also the local registrar of marriages and maintains copies of certificates for all births, deaths, and marriages that occur in Colusa County.

The Archives maintain preserve many of the County’s historical records including old court records, the Great Registrars and original brands. You will find fascinating historical gems here!

The Elections Division is responsible with the highly sensitive task of conducting all elections at the Federal, State, County, Municipal, Board of Education, College, School and Special District level. It is a fascinating process full of learning.

Supervision & Examples of Duties

Deputy Clerk-Recorder-Registrar I (Trainee)/II: Receives immediate supervision from the Chief Deputy Clerk-Recorder-Registrar.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Deputy Clerk-Recorder-Registrar I

Experience: Previous general clerical experience with heavy public contact is desirable.

Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by secretarial, clerical or computer training. Additional related college level courses desirable.

Deputy Clerk-Recorder-Registrar II

Experience: Two years of progressively responsible clerical experience with heavy public contact.

Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by additional secretarial, clerical or computer training. Some college level courses in related fields desirable.

Supplemental Information

Salary is based on a 37.5-hour workweek.
Deputy Clerk-Recorder Registrar I: $2,929-$4,815
Deputy Clerk-Recorder Registrar II: $3,235- $5,317

The salary range consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
