Familiarity with the complexities of our local Austin, TX, Travis county history, and draws connection to knowledge of current and emerging urban issues. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to work as a member of a team to achieve department and location strategic goals.

TRAVEL :
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

MILITARY SERVICE :

WORK SCHEDULE :

WORK HOURS :
  • Based on operational needs, work hours may include extended workdays, holidays, and weekend work.

Pay Range
$24.56 - $28.80

Hours
Flexibility in scheduling is required.
Regular (40) hours per week, Proposed Operation Hours
  • Tuesday - Wednesday 10a - 7p
  • Thursday 10a - 8p
  • Friday 9a - 5p
  • Saturday 10a - 6p
  • Rotating Saturdays
  • Evening shifts as needed

Preferred Experience:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of African American history, including Austin, TX and Travis county local histories.
  • Experience creating, planning, and implementing community events and programs to engage the African American community.
  • Experience in programming, preferably in museums or cultural nonprofits.
  • Experience forming, collaborating, and maintaining community partnerships with community from various backgrounds.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


Develop and implement a variety of programs, projects and activities. Coordinate with existing organizations to address community economic or social service needs. Conduct needs assessments and meets with community residents, leaders and community groups to identify needs and available resources. Collaborate with other organizations to plan and develop programs and activities or improve coordination of existing services. Research funding sources, develop short and long range plans, and compile informational reports. Serve as City representative before community groups, businesses and/or the media. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers. Assists in the development and monitoring of project and/or program budgets Assists in the development of short/long range plans Assists in the development and implementation of operating policies and Procedures Ensures compliance with city and other regulatory agency requirements and policies
