The Position

Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), Division of Plant Health and Compliance, Plant Pathology program is seeking to fill a full-time Agriculturist 2 position in Sparks, NV. Under the supervision of the plant pathologist, the incumbent will perform a broad range of diagnostic testing using microbiological, serological, molecular, and DNA-based methods. This position is also responsible for executing the National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN) Laboratory Quality Management System to meet and maintain the NPDN accreditation standards. Additional responsibilities include crop inspections and survey for plant diseases, diagnostic data entry and extraction, and data uploading. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and one year of professional experience in agricultural inspection, seed certification, research, or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
