Pay Grade: Executive Management

Departmental Mission Statement: The Office of Access, Diversity and Fairness (OADF) is led by the Chief Access, Diversity, and Fairness Officer (CADFO) and is tasked with the overall responsibility for the Massachusetts Trial Court’s policies and practices related to access, fairness, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The following five departments report to and are supervised by the CADFO: the Office of Access to Justice; Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Office of Court Services and Law Libraries; Office of Language Access and Court Records; and Office of Alternative/Online Dispute Resolution Programs. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) is primarily tasked with supporting the Trial Court workforce by creating and facilitating DEI-focused trainings. ODEI also partners with Human Resources and other departments across the Trial Court to create programs and initiatives for the benefit of the Trial Court workforce (e.g., mentoring initiatives, Employee Resource Groups [ERGs], etc.).

• Bilingual and/or Multilingual ability in ASL, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cabo Verdean Creole, Portuguese, Mandarin, Arabic strongly preferred.• 5 to 8 years of experience working in a legal or judicial environment (e.g., learning and development, training, or other diversity, equity, and inclusion-focused work within a judicial or legal environment).

Position Summary:Working within the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI), the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training is responsible for leading a variety of programs and initiatives for the Office of Access, Diversity and Fairness. The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training will support the Chief Access, Diversity and Fairness Officer (CADFO) by monitoring and supporting fidelity to a variety of programs and initiatives related to supporting access, diversity, and fairness in the Trial Court, including tracking projects from initiation to completion and ensuring projects are proceeding as designed and on schedule. The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training directs and supervises the work of other staff members in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Other responsibilities include the collection of data and information on the progress of various diversity, equity, and inclusion and overall OADF priorities, working in collaboration with other leaders of the Trial Court with emphasis on the Department of Human Resources, the Judicial Institute and the Office of Workplace Rights and Compliance. The Director of DEI Training ensures that curriculum development and planning across the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) aligns with the Trial Court's strategic goals and mission. This role involves supervising staff, developing a core curriculum, and collaborating with various departments to advance DEI initiatives.

Supervision Received:Receives assignments and supervision from the Chief Access, Diversity and Fairness Officer (CADFO) or their designee, performing duties that advance OADF organizational priorities, in accordance with all established best practices.

Duties:

• Supervises, manages, and oversees the performance of three staff members within ODEI, including coaching, conducting performance management activities, annual evaluations, regular meetings, and professional development.
• Develops a comprehensive framework for a Trial Court core curriculum addressing DEI education and training needs for the workforce, including new employees and judges.
• Oversees curriculum development efforts and the facilitation of various trainings across the Trial Court ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation.
• Monitors national trends and best practices related to DEI to ensure responsive programming that fosters a supportive environment for a diverse population.
• Provides leadership of, monitors, evaluates, and reports on the progress of DEI projects, programming and education across the Trial Court.
• Leads, supports, and/or participates in various committees and working departments across the Trial Court, providing a DEI lens.
• Collaborates with HR and the Office of Workplace Rights and Compliance to create trainings and other programs that address DEI issues in hiring and investigations.

• Travels throughout the Commonwealth representing the OADF and Trial Court interests.
• Contributes to a work environment that values knowledge, respect, and engagement with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Serves as a thought leader and subject matter expert around issues related to DEI.
• Collaborates with HR and other internal partners to create and implement hiring and retention initiatives as well as programs to assess and improve employee morale and sense of belonging. embed DEI values throughout the courts and advance DEI tactics within the strategic plan.
• Establishes data-driven programmatic goals and benchmarks and provides regular reports on progress towards goals, including quarterly and year-end reports.
• Assists with annual strategic plans, diversity reports, and departmental needs.
• Participates in meetings, seminars, and conferences for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to improve operations and drive enhancements and innovations related to DEI.

Minimum Requirements: The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with a strong background in DEI initiatives, curriculum development, and strategic planning. This role requires excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills to effectively advance DEI goals within the Trial Court. Education, Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of people who are representative of Trial Court employees and users, including people with disabilities, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, people from immigrant communities, and/or people with low-income;
• Juris Doctor or a graduate degree (e.g., Master's) and 8 years of relevant work experience in organizational and strategic planning, curriculum development, and contemporary diversity, equity and inclusion issues, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Strong commitment to cultivating a diverse and inclusive community.
• Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across various constituencies.
• Experience delivering engaging presentations to large audiences virtually and in-person.
• Project management experience, including leading teams from project conception to completion.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex DEI issues accessibly.
• Demonstrated experience in developing outcome-based training programs and assessing learning outcomes.
• Demonstrated experience leading meetings, workshops, and seminars for enhancing workplace engagement, equity, and inclusion.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, from concept to completion.
• Demonstrated experience supervising, nurturing, and retaining employees.
• Working knowledge of ADA compliance and practices, strongly encouraged.
