Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President, Admissions, the incumbent has responsibility to provide leadership, strategic direction, management, and assessment of financial, operational and personnel goals and objectives for the Office of University Outreach and Orientation and School Relations. This includes collaboration with campus and community colleagues to develop and implement strategic pre-collegiate, high school transfer, adult re-entry student outreach. Responsible for strategic direction and leadership of enrollment diversity access initiatives including but not limited to, Beach Pathways Alternative Admissions Program and Long Beach College Promise components. The Director is accountable for designing, implementing, and administering services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services for our prospective students that enhances the quality of campus life.

Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, strategic direction, management, and assessment of financial, operational and personnel goals and objectives for the Office of University Outreach and School Relations - Lead the strategic planning for UOSR establishing goals and objectives and align all goals with SA and CSULB goals. Creates plans to control budget spending, labor efficiency, new areas of technology and student service. Provides leadership and direction for the most cost effective, timely and efficient processes.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership of enrollment diversity access initiatives including but not limited to, Beach Pathways Alternative Admissions Program and Long Beach College Promise components - Leadership and management of diversity initiatives to increase access to CSULB for historically underrepresented student populations to include research, program development, implementation, and assessment; marketing; and campus partnerships.
  • Serve on CSULB and CSU wide committees.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Experience working with programs that serve diverse student populations and language backgrounds with special attention and outreach to low-income first generation and other educationally disadvantaged college students. Experience in outreach, marketing, community relations activities. Experience in working within an educational environment. Experience in events management/coordination. Experience giving presentations and public speaking. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations procedures etc. to define the problem, identify relevant issues, and generate reasonable and appropriate alternatives or solutions. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with a wide variety of campus faculty, staff, administration, and student body as well as cross-institutional professionals.

Ability to organize large assessment programs and analyze results. Ability to manage, organize and demonstrate command of a complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places, and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of completing projects. Ability to exercise sound time management skills and control of projects and work pro-actively to mitigate delays, budget problems and any additional complications that may compromise operations of units. Ability to manage, organize and demonstrate command of a complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places, and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of completing projects.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience required.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree.

• Four years’ experience in a supervisory role strongly preferred.

Physical Summary

  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.


Licenses / Certificates

Valid California driver’s license with proof of insurance required as this position travels to various sites to do outreach.

• Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $7,955 - $11,933 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Additional Information
