Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communication (DM&C) and/or anyone assigned by the DM&C, the Marketing Communication Copywriter (MW) works closely with those in the senior leadership of the California State University Northridge’s (CSUN’s) Tseng College: Graduate, International, and Midcareer Education (College) to craft a distinctive, compelling and engaging case for each new and/or redesigned program offered by the College. The incumbent’s goal is to accurately capture the features of each program, its value to those who enroll, its thoughtful design and academic content, the expertise of the faculty who designed and are teaching in the program, and the approaches to the support of those enrolled with a focus on student success.
  • Development of a Compelling Comprehensive and Foundational Core Case for Each Program Offered by the College.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and web development and program development (the Dean, Associate Dean, and Assistant Dean for Program Development) teams to create engaging and informative copy for Tseng College's website, including program pages, landing pages, and other relevant sections, ensuring consistency with branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development of content strategies and editorial calendars in collaboration with the marketing team, aligning content creation efforts with overarching marketing goals. Generate high-quality, persuasive copy for various marketing materials, including websites, emails, brochures, social media, advertisements, and other promotional materials.

Qualifications
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college in English, Marketing, Advertising, Communications or a job related field. Equivalent to three (3) years of professional or technical experience in public affairs, media relations, marketing and/or market research; four years preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to use effective media outlets including planning media coverage and media publicity campaigns for the university and events; web communication techniques, vehicles and formats. Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media and research techniques and methods. Knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver media messages.
  • Ability and specialized skills to: apply market research to identify communication needs and target audiences; build and manage more sophisticated media contacts; keep abreast of campus events and subject matter expertise in relation to current events to identify and capitalize on media opportunities that will promote the university and increase positive media coverage.
  • Effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals; analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles; apply appropriate statistical techniques and methods to research; provide lead work direction. Strong story development and journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills.
  • Possession of Internet research skills; excellent English oral and written communications skills; sound judgment skills; computer skills; interpersonal skills; and cross-functional team leading skills.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: Public Affairs/Communications Specialist /0800 / 2
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3949 - $6300 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3949 - $7143 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
  • The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
