The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time, regular, limited-term, and temporary positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

The Nevada County Planning Department is looking for a highly motivated and organized individual to join our dynamic and collaborative Team. This position provides support to the Planning Department. The main duties of this position are to review site plans for building permits and provide customer service. The incumbent will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to explain sophisticated regulations in a clear and easy to understand format for all customers.

Essential Duties Include:
  • Reviews permit applications and may conduct field inspections.
  • Assists permit applicants and others by phone and in person, by answering questions related to land use, and zoning and ordinances and laws.
  • Assists with the completion of applications, performs preliminary review for completeness and accuracy, and determines appropriate fees.
  • Reviews land use proposals for basic conformance with land use policies and procedures contained in the General Plan and the zoning ordinance.
  • Assists with field inspections and enforcement of land use, and zoning ordinances and laws.
  • Assists with the preparation of general correspondence and reports; collects data in support of these.
  • Prepares charts, graphs, tables, maps, and other supporting information for illustration in agency reports.
  • Issues planning permits at the public counter.
  • Reviews parcel and subdivision maps for conformity with ordinances; performs building department permit clearance plan checks and parcel file review for on-site soil evaluations. (Planning)
  • Assists planners with research and planning studies by compiling data and preparing reports; researches reports of zoning violations and assists zoning staff in researching cases and compiling reports. (Planning)

Retirement
The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
