Pay Range: $89,975 - $116,968 annual compensation

The Water Department is seeking a Senior Professional Engineer. This position will report to the Senior Capital Projects Officer within the W/WW Planning and Horizontal Asset Management section. The Planning and Horizontal Asset Management section primarily supports growth related initiatives, including development review. The primary tool used by the section to determine capacity is a water and sewer model (InfoWater). The job requires the ability to communicate clearly and quickly with development inquiries and efficiently manage the workload in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering related field plus
  • Six (6) years minimum experience in either development, design, or operation of water or wastewater systems
  • Some proficiency with water or sewer models (prefer InfoWater, WaterGEMS, or EPANET).
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong Interpersonal Assets - Listening, Professional Manners, Problem Solving, Self-Management, Responsibility and Accountability
  • Excellent communications skills. Unique ability to present concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and written, with the development community and internal City staff
  • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a supervisor or manager with direct reports.
  • Experience with Municipal Government
  • Exceptional customer service, time management, communication, and writing skills are essential to address telephone, email, and walk-in public inquiries.

The Senior Professional Engineer job responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing developer studies for adequate capacity in the water and sewer system
  • Water and sewer modeling in support of development and wholesale customer growth
  • Wholesale water and sewer capacity analysis
  • Assist in updating, maintaining, and improving the horizontal asset Risk Based Assessment model
  • Analyzing specific regions to determine ultimate needs and layout of water or sewer lines
  • Project management or assistance in planning related projects, including Master Plan updates and Impact Fee studies
  • General trouble-shooting or analysis for internal stakeholders. This includes collaborating with Capital Delivery to ensure projects are appropriately designed. Collaboration with Field Operations will require pulling existing SCADA or flow meter data to perform I&I analysis and solve unstructured problems.
  • Provide guidance for development to external stakeholders
  • Supervise direct reports. This position is expected to manage one engineering technician. Guidance to non-engineering staff and graduate engineers is also expected.
