POSITION PURPOSE
The Child Care Attendant is responsible for supervising the Child Care Room and its operation and provides a safe, nurturing, fun, comfortable environment for children and parents. Position requires working evening, weekends, holidays and may require the ability to travel to work at all City facilities as needed.Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants. This position is classified as safety-sensitive due to the nature of the work. Employees in this position may be subject to random drug testing and/or heightened supervision per the personnel policies and rules.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks

1. Supervises children in a drop-in babysitting environment
  • Engages children in appropriate activities
  • Uses appropriate positive reinforcement and discipline techniques
  • Provides a safe area at all times

2. Follows child care room procedures
  • Enforces child care guidelines and general building guidelines
  • Follows City of Westminster policies and procedures
  • Opens and closes the child care room according to schedule
  • Uses appropriate forms
  • Processes admissions and dismissals
  • Keeps an accurate daily cash bag
  • Keeps the area and equipment in clean and safe condition
  • Cleans and sterilizes toys and materials at specified times

3. Follows PR&L guest service philosophy

4. Maintains regular and punctual attendance

Other Duties and Responsibilities

1. Attends staff meetings and trainings when scheduled.

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
Required :
Must be at least 16 years of ageInfant/Child CPR certification within 90 days of hire Preferred :
Prior experience supervising childrenCompletion of “Babysitting Bootcamp” Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements
This position requires a moderate degree of physical stamina and strength, including the ability to:
  • Frequently sit, stand and walk through a multi-level facility
  • Occasionally squat, bend, kneel, twist, climb, balance and reach over head
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Frequently use hands and fingers for fine manipulation; occasionally use light and firm grasp
  • Frequently see objects up close to perform office tasks and far away to observe activity for safety hazards or problems
  • Constantly use hearing to interact with guests and staff and recognize trouble outside of view
  • Occasionally use sufficient physical strength, stamina and agility to perform emergency work in various capacities

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is constantly performed indoors with occasional outdoor activity. Indoor and outdoor work is performed in a high public use, multilevel recreation facility where loud noise and multiple events and activities at one time may cause a distraction. Exposure to periods of high activity and stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies.
Required Materials and Equipment
Cleaning materials to include: vacuum, brooms, disinfectant and other cleaning supplies. Office equipment to include phone, video equipment including TV, VCR. DVD.

Candidates must be legally entitled to work in the United States and must successfully pass a criminal background check, reference check, and substance screen. There may be additional pre-employment requirements depending on the nature of the position.

The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system.In lieu of social security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.
