POSITION OVERVIEW

Workdays & Hours: Monday to Friday. 5:00 am to 1:30 pm. Occasional weekends/Holidays (Subject to change).

PURPOSE OF DIVISION
The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, Small construction Maintenance Services business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the Plumber Lead, Small construction Maintenance Services is to self-perform plumbing maintenance work on buildings, utilities, and other infrastructure assets, within the three HAS airports. This position will repair pipes, fixtures, and other components of sanitary, storm water, environmental, natural gas, and domestic water system assets. The position will unclog drains and clear small, medium, and large plumbing stoppages. The position will install and repair plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, water heaters and hot water tanks. The position will install new plumbing components and sub-components. This position will primarily focus on small construction, and build-back services, but will also assist in other areas of airport maintenance at the three HAS airports.

The Plumber Leader responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Directs personnel involved in the installation, preventative maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures, water leaks, gas leaks and sewer lines; distributes work assignments.
  • Ensures adherence to local plumbing codes. Assists personnel with complex work assignment and inspects completed task to ensure quality standard are met.
  • Records total hours and materials used per project for cost accounting.
  • Secures plumbing permits to install fixtures in city-owned buildings.
  • Inspects structure to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  • Operates pressure test equipment to test installed systems for leaks, ensuring that system meets specifications.
  • Interprets blueprints and construction plans in conjunction with water, gas and sewage lines and Coordinates sequence of installations.
  • Installs inventory controls procedures to maintain appropriate supply of frequently used parts to allow adequate lead time for ordering materials.
  • Delegates responsibilities among personnel, collaborating on daily production priorities to maintain efficient operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fairly fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within moderate tolerance demands.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or GED and a current Texas Journey Level Plumber's license.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of experience as a plumber are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
May require a valid Class A or B commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

PREFERENCES
  • Preferences will be given to applicant with Four (4) years of experience in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical or plumbing assets.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
