The Position

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture in Sparks, NV is seeking an Accounting Assistant IV to provide accounting support to five divisions within the department. Duties include accounting support functions and assist in resolution of issues related to the fiscal unit. Serves as the accounting lead and provides guidance to staff. Cross trains employees to ensure coverage. Oversees the annual inventory and ensures equipment acquisition, receipt and disposal meets state regulations and Department goals and objectives. Assists in establishing and maintaining internal control procedures. Supervisor duties include recruitments, develops work performance standards, arranges for training, completes performance reviews, provides direction and initiates appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary. Serves as the department's payroll clerk, which includes responsibility for payroll reconciliation reports, verification and review of all department timesheets for timeliness and accuracy. Ensures desk procedures are updated timely and accurately reflect processes. Initiates batch reports for coding and processing meal claim reimbursements for all child nutrition programs. Issues travel advances and other checks from the Agriculture Working Capital Fund bank account. Receives repayments and prepare deposits. Reconciles bank account statements. Reconciles travel card statements. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; developing computer spreadsheets to record, track, organize, and report accounting related data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; reconciling accounts; and making corrections through the use of journal vouchers; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
