Pay Range: $25.55 hr. - $31.94 hr.

A Construction Inspector II position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department, Capital Delivery Division, in the Quality Control Team. The selected candidate will be responsible for street measurements, reviewing and understanding plans, and overseeing construction projects involving water and sewer utilities, storm drains, and concrete and asphalt pavement for conformance with plans, specifications, and contracts. This individual will establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, utilities, the general public, and other employees. The Candidate should be a responsible, dependable, and extremely detail-oriented individual who is willing to learn.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Two years of construction inspection experience involving the construction and maintenance of public works, systems, and structures.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Must pass HPE physical and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least three years’ experience with water and sewer utilities, storm drains, and concrete and asphalt pavement
  • MS Access, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro skills.

The Construction Inspector II job responsibilities include:
  • Completes construction project measurements and quantity calculations including plan markups, drawings, spreadsheets, and pictures. Resolves quantity differences with project inspectors and contractors
  • Coordinates with other employees and contractors on large projects that require traffic control and surveying
  • Trains new inspectors in quantity measuring using City procedures. Ensures that safety procedures are followed.
  • Inspects work quality and materials used in a variety of public works projects during various stages of construction to ensure compliance with construction standards and codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Performs preliminary and final inspections and recommends acceptance of developments.
  • Observes work during progress and upon completion. Coordinates change orders and advise contractors of changes in plans and specifications.
  • Inspects various public works water and sewer utilities, storm drains, and concrete and asphalt pavement
  • Acts as liaison between contractors and the general public with respect to various construction projects;
  • A strong interpersonal, management, and excellent communications skills with the unique ability to be able to transfer these concepts clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with the development community and internal City staff;

Working Conditions
  • Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.

Physical Demand
  • Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
