Job Description

The City of Santa of Santa Fe Springs Public Works Department is seeking a highly-motivated individual for the position of Traffic Signal & Lighting Technician II . Employment Type: Full-time position represented by the City of Santa Fe Springs City Employees Association.

Work Schedule: Traffic Signal & Lighting Technician II are assigned a 4/10 work schedule between the hours 5:30 am - 3:30 pm. In addition, this position will be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Under direct supervision, performs complex repairs for traffic signal and street lighting equipment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives direct supervision from the Traffic Signal and Lighting Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervision of Traffic Signal and Lighting Technician Assistant.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Held in Common: Supports the Mission of the City and its Elected and Appointed Officials. Exhibits loyalty to the City and its representatives. Provides courteous and timely service to the public as the ultimate employer.Works cooperatively with other City employeesExhibits integrity and displays ethical behavior.
B. Essential Job Specific Duties: Troubleshoots and repairs complex electrical malfunctions associated with traffic and street light equipment.Performs preventative maintenance of intersections and control cabinets.Performs regular inspections of City street lighting.Repairs street lighting.Plans and issues daily assignments to subordinate traffic and street lighting maintenance personnel.Supervises the work of assigned personnel.
C. Other Job Specific Duties: Replaces wiring throughout the City and contract cities.Relocates street light poles.Re-routes conduits and wiring.Removes and installs seasonal banners throughout the City.Installs and removes all Christmas decorations throughout the City.Responds to emergency calls for traffic and street light repair.Operates hydraulic high lift, skip loader, backhoe, dump truck, and other related equipment.Conducts safety meetings.Prepares reports, correspondence, and documentation; ensures accuracy and completeness of information.Prepares cost accounts for work completed.Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The following requirements generally demonstrate possession of the minimum requisite knowledge and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position. A typical way to obtain these would be:
  • High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California; coursework, certificates, or a degree in electrical maintenance preferred.
  • Four (4) years experience in the maintenance and repair of traffic signal and street light equipment.
  • A valid State of California driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Technician I
  • IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification.
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician II preferred.
  • Class A or B driver's license preferred.
