POSITION OVERVIEW :
The Geologic Drainage Systems team performs hydrogeologic and hydrologic research including but not limited to groundwater and surface water quality and flow evaluation studies, karst investigations; tracing studies; and identifiying the sources of urban discharges using geochemistry. We intend to hire two employees with one position focusing more on hydrogeology projects and the other focusing more on surface hydrology projects, but both positions will include interdisciplinary work and collaboration with other scientists in the Applied Watershed Science Section. The team seeks candidates with the following skills: written and oral communication; project management and environmental study design; field work skills, monitoring station construction experience; environmental data analysis; and the ability to work both independently and with a team.

ESSENTIAL STATUS :
This position has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated extraordinary situation or emergency condition, essential employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees, as well as ensure the continuity of essential operations. Pay Range
$28.85 - $36.06
$31.81 - $39.76
Hours
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday with the ability for a 50% telework schedule within a two-week period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.

May require working outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and
holidays as dictated by business needs.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience planning and conducting surface water and/or groundwater research studies, including site evaluation, study design, field execution, data interpretation, and reporting.
  • Experience with the geology and/or hydrogeology of central Texas.
  • Experience performing field work using a variety of methods and equipment, under a variety of conditions.
  • Experience with various analytical methods for environmental data.
  • Licensed Professional Geoscientist or Geoscientist-in-Training in State of Texas; or experience with design, construction, and/or operations and maintenance of permanent field monitoring stations.
