Student Services Professional II

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Assists with developing and supporting academic and co-curricular opportunities, events, and programs to enhance student engagement, pride, and sense of belonging for new students transitioning into the CSUCI community. Assists with selection and training of orientation leaders. Assists with orientation logistics by working with University Events and campus partners. Assists with the with all aspects related to orientation, Welcome Celebration, and Weeks of Welcome events. Provides resources and engagement opportunities for new transfer and commuter students based on constituent needs, national trends, and best practices, such as National Transfer Student Week and off-campus engagement. Ensures effective marketing of First-Year Experience events. Compiles data from program assessments such as orientation evaluations and student surveys designed to connect students with involvement opportunities at CSUCI. Assists with coordinating resource fairs for campus partners. Collaborates with programs and services within Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Business & Financial Affairs to ensure a seamless experience for students between matriculation and the first semester of enrollment. Collaborates with campus partners to coordinate campus experiences that promote an inclusive campus climate, retention, engagement, multiculturalism, diversity, and community development. Collaborates with campus colleagues to assess student needs, promote student programs throughout campus, increase engagement and student success for students in their first year at CSUCI, and connect students with resources on and off campus that meet their unique needs. Supports Orientation & Engagement Programs Director and all initiatives within the program including Orientation, First-Year Experience, mid-year re-engagement programming, transfer and commuter students, student caregivers, and family/supporter resources. Regularly utilizes student development theory, research, best practice, and assessment tools to identify and understand the needs of students transitioning to university life. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling, or related field required.

Experience: At least two years of progressively responsible, related student services work experience required. A job-related master’s degree may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Direct experience in student activities, student leadership, or student training at a college/university is required.

Other knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of student development theory, retention literature, and strategies; student support programs and services; and customer service standards and procedures. Ability to plan and evaluate co-curricular programs; develop effective collaborative relationships with faculty and administration; use independent judgment when communicating program information to various constituents; and foster a cooperative and positive work environment. Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; interpret and apply policies and procedures independently; and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist. Strong interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Must be organized and follow directions with minimal supervision and handle multiple tasks; possess a high degree of enthusiasm for, and experience with, the development of educational and social activities that effectively engage college students. Knowledge of group and individual counseling theories, assessment, procedures, and techniques. Knowledge of and ability to use high-level analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills with the ability to work creatively and independently. Proficiency in the use of computers, including appropriate software. Knowledge of federal, state, and CSU regulations and policies. Must maintain the confidentiality of student information at all times (as per FERPA). Must demonstrate inclusivity and be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community members. May be required to work outside of traditional business hours with advance notice when possible.

Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, flexibility with respect to work schedule is necessary as this position will require the occasional evening or weekend service with advance notice, as required. Punctuality and regular attendance is mandatory. Occasional travel will also be required, with advance notice, as required.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.

Hiring Salary: $4,841 per month
