Position Summary
The Desktop Support Consultant provides technology consulting to campus customers in hardware and software support. This includes problem diagnosis, research, and resolutions as well as installation, repair, and configuration. Documentation of problems and solutions is also required to support the effective use of technology by faculty, staff, and students across the entire campus. The position also provides support for university owned workstations, laptops, printers, peripherals, and smartphones as well as related productivity and/or repair tools.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,500 per month - $7,500 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,912 per month - $12,124 per month

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Other hours as required.

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Communications, or related fields, or equivalent experience. Demonstrated experience and commitment to providing excellent service to diverse population. Demonstrated experience taking complex information or research and presenting it in a structured, user-centered fashion. Demonstrated experience with effectively completing assignments, prioritizing based on strategic goals, and meeting deadlines. Experience assessing user needs and providing appropriate support.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated ability to work independently on desktop support, user consulting, ability to research and solve a wide range of problems, develop practical and thorough solutions, work with outside vendors and manufacturers, and use effective communication and listening skills. Demonstrate the ability to assess user information technology needs and provide appropriate support including in the areas of desktop computing, hardware and software, problem diagnosis, research and resolution, system automations and scripting. Serve as functional and technical resource, and source of knowledge for first level support teams in ensuring continuity of service for the university community across multiple modalities, while ensuring high-quality customer experience. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

Preferred Qualifications
2 - 5 Years of recent experience in Information Technology Desktop Support. 2 - 5 Years Information Technology experience within higher education. 1 - 2 Years of recent experience with software deployment/patch management tools (Dell Case, JAMF Casper, Ghost, Altiris, Munki, SCCM) 1 - 3 Years of recent Mac OS X support experience. 1 - 3 Years of recent Windows support experience 1 - 3 Years of Technology Committee work Certificates : Dell Repair Certification, Apple Certified Macintosh Technician, CompTIA A+
