Pay Range: $27.52 - $34.40/hr.

A Senior Engineering Technician position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department/Transportation Management Division. The Transportation Management Division is seeking candidates for this Senior Engineering Technician position for the Right-of-Way Team to review and approve multiple types of permits for the Department, including the following: street use, temporary encroachments, parking meter, and other permits. A key part of the permit process is traffic control plan review and approval.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in technical engineering in the area of permitting and traffic control
  • Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) requirements
  • Customer service experience in a permitting and/or inspections environment
  • Municipal experience
  • Permit software experience (Accela or similar platforms)
  • Computer software experience in MS Excel, Word, and GIS software

This Senior Engineering Technician job responsibilities include:
  • Coordinating, reviewing, evaluating, and approving permits including traffic control plans and permit applications
  • Inspect traffic control devices in conformance with approved street use permits and other contract documents
  • Respond to customer service requests, develop recommendations, prepare follow up for nonconforming permit applicants, and coordinate with consultant engineers, professional/technical staff, and other divisions/departments as needed
  • Prepare calculations for fees associated with impact on City ROW
  • Coordinate with parking, traffic engineering and other internal teams
  • Prepare M&Cs for temporary street closures exceeding 10 days and coordinate with Developers, Engineers, and City staff from multiple departments/divisions
  • Collect data and prepare reports associated with permit activities and generated revenue

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

Physical Demands

Light Work- Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pound of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the sedentary work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
