What you’ll do:

Laboratory:

  • Preparing patients before drawing blood.
  • Explaining blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process.
  • Following all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas.
  • Gathering medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes.
  • Verifying patient information and labeling blood samples properly.
  • Accurately updating patient information in the organization’s database.
  • Helping nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draws.
  • Working with supervising Providers and following their directions.
  • Responsible for communicating list of next working day blood draws and daily refusals.
  • Preparing venipuncture specimens for transportation; use proper needles and specimen tubes, label specimens correctly, properly use centrifuge, separate samples, store appropriately.
  • Edit orders in the contracted laboratory site, print completed requisitions.
  • Order lab supplies from contracted laboratory.
  • Responsible to make sure labs are drawn per national Clozaril protocol (will work with pharmacy).
  • Work with pharmacy by performing CBC fingersticks for Clozaril.
  • Responsible for drawing, filling out paperwork and sending labs to the state laboratory, receive results and file.
  • Responsible for checking for expired supplies, stock/restock lab supplies in clinics, exam rooms and lab boxes.
  • Work with Medical Providers and Psychiatrists.
  • Help maintain lab schedule to optimize how often patients are having labs drawn.
  • Work closely with laboratory supervisor and other clinic staff.
  • Keep laboratory equipment clean per manufacture guidelines.


Clinic Runner:

  • Living Area/Clinic/Infirmary Checks; restock items and check for expiration dates.
  • Escort patients to and from the clinic; PT, Podiatry, Medical, Dental, Audiology, Optometry, Speech and OT.
  • Escort Clinic Providers to Living Area to examine patients.
  • Respond to Crisis intervention (assaultive/resistive behavior).


All you need for success:

Typical Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2-3 years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as Phlebotomy Technician.
