Job Description

Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled at one of the following levels:

Maintenance Worker II
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent, plus two (2) years of custodial, building maintenance or construction work.
  • Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.:


  • Licenses and Certifications Required:
    Texas Class “C” Operator’s License.


Maintenance Worker III
Minimum qualifications:
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent, plus three (3) years of building maintenance and construction work, including heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.


  • Licenses or Certifications:
    • Texas Class “C” Operator’s License.


Physical Requirements:
Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds

Position Overview
This position is responsible for the maintenance of 30 Austin Public Health facilities including various repairs (carpentry, plumbing, electrical), painting and other remodeling projects, staff and equipment moves, furniture assembly, and vehicle operation.

Maintenance Worker III
Minimum qualifications:
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent, plus three (3) years of building maintenance and construction work, including heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Relevant work experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
  • Licenses or Certifications:
    • Texas Class “C” Operator’s License.

Driving Requirement:
  • This position requires a valid Class “C” driver’s license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date.
  • External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
