Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.

Position is a Regional Level position with work location at Regional Office in Lubbock, Abilene or Amarillo with occasional travel to Regional TDCJ units.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of policies, procedures and clinical requirements for the provision of infection control activities for inmate care.
  • Provide support and guidance related to infection control standards and requirements for region specific unit staff.
  • Complete chart reviews and create reminders for policy required continuity of care items.
  • Monitor Infection Control specific reports to create reminders for policy required care items.
  • Monitor Infection Control website for revisions and updates.
  • Monitor, identify, schedule and report required date to TDCJ Health Services, accurately and timely to meet policy required reporting guidelines for a specific region.
  • Identify and communicate effectively to report trends and issues to internal and external stakeholders relevant to infection control activities.
  • Assist with Infection Control Policy and Forms Revisions as needed.
  • Assist with orientation/education of unit staff on Infection Control specific items.
  • Participate in annual employee Tuberculosis training and screening clinics.
  • Participate in annual Flu vaccine clinics.

Required Qualifications
License/Certification: Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Current CPR certification. Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt.
