Our Environmental Services division is currently seeking a Process Instrumentation Technician to join our Plant Maintenance team. The ideal candidate should have water or wastewater treatment process knowledge and process instrumentation experience to implement technical projects that require Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) programming knowledge.
A Process Instrument Technician is knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of process instrumentation in the water production and wastewater treatment processes. P rovides troubleshooting expertise to resolve highly technical issues related to the operation and maintenance of process instrumentation and performs calibrations and maintenance on all process instrumentation.
The pay range for this position is $28.00 to $35.37/hour. For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Process Instrumentation Technician II utilizes knowledge of water and wastewater processes to install, troubleshoot, and program process analyzers, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and other electronic process equipment. They perform maintenance and calibration of all process instrumentation across water and wastewater sites. They work in a team environment where safe work practices and knowledge sharing is critical to team success. This position is part of a three-level career progression of Process Instrumentation Technician I, II, and III.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluates operation of process instrumentation; prepares and updates documentation to ensure compliance with procedures and Kansas regulations; i nstalls, repairs, and completes programming changes as required on analyzers, level indicators, flow meters, water lines, instrumentation, valve & gate actuators, security cameras, VFDs and other related electronic equipment.
- Performs installation and diagnostic work on SCADA PLC hardware components and basic programming of RSLogix PLC programs; performs necessary changes to Control Logix and SLC-500 PLC ladder logic programs.
- Performs rudimentary functions in SCADA Human Machine Interface (HMI) Wonderware software; completes basic programming within the SCADA HMI application using Wonderware software to create and edit SCADA tags and icons ; performs backup copies of all changes.
- Meets project schedules and milestones; works with outside vendors or contractors to ensure proper documentation of program changes and updates are completed.
- Assists with asset management data accuracy related to instrumentation and controls; inventories PLC and SCADA equipment assets and validate that all data is accurately represented in the computerized maintenance management system (Cartegraph).
- Communicates frequently with Plant Maintenance and Operations staff by providing status updates when troubleshooting break downs, process analyzer, and/or sensor issues; attends relevant programming and equipment trainings; performs on-call duties and overtime as required.
QualificationsExperience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in operating and maintaining process instrumentation or two years of increasingly responsible experience maintaining PLC’s and/or SCADA systems is required.
Education: An associate degree supplemented by specialized training or certification in IT or Environmental Science focused on the maintenance and operation of water or wastewater facilities is required. Additional relevant and progressively more responsible experience may be substituted for education.
Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required. Must o btain one of the following within 24 months of hire: AVEVA/Intouch HMI Certificate, Rockwell ControlLogix Programmer certification, or Logix Maintainer certification. Must also complete two SLC 500 Programming and Maintenance classes within 24 months of hire. Must o btain Class I Water, Wastewater, or Plant Maintenance Technologist certification within 24 m onths of hire.
Environmental or Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to drive and move between multiple site locations, often multiple times a day. Will work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Will be exposed to wind, sun, rain, pollen, allergens, snow, and other elements. Work often requires walking, climbing or descending stairs and ladders, and navigating uneven surfaces. Will regularly sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, reach, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This work requires good manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and visual acuity. May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dust, mist, noxious odors, and gases. Will perform work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. May work in confined spaces.
