The Code Enforcement Division of the Land Use Services Department seeks interested individuals to join our team and support our calling to protect the public’s safety, welfare, and property value through enforcement of San Bernardino County ordinances and State/Federal laws relating to land use, zoning, housing, public nuisances and vehicle abatement. Office Assistants III pe rform complex clerical duties in support of the Code Enforcement Division.

Background Check: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass a background investigation, which includes a background check through the California Department of Justice, and Livescan/fingerprint check.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must qualify under one of the below options:

Option 1:
Current San Bernardino Land Use Services Department PSE/WEX/Intern/Temporary Employee experience performing related duties.
Option 2:
Six (6) months of full-time office clerical experience gained at a San Bernardino County office, which includes experience in permit applications for, or enforcing, code compliance related to land use, building, construction, fire, environmental, or other code regulations, which includes explaining related regulations and requirements to the public.

Option 3:
One (1) year of full-time work experience performing clerical functions in an office environment, including experience supporting Land Use Services/Code Enforcement functions in a public/government agency (e.g., code compliance, inspection, permitting, etc.).
Options 2 & 3 Qualifying clerical duties must include a variety of office clerical tasks, including, public contact, computer usage, typing, filing, answering the telephone and data entry .

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have prior experience working within the field of Land Use Services, specifically land use, zoning, housing, public nuisances and vehicle abatement . Applicants with experience in Code Enforcement are highly desirable.

Bilingual Skills(Spanish/English)are highly desirable and should be noted on the application. Candidates who wish to be considered for bilingual (Spanish/English) positions must indicate bilingual skills on the application. Bilingual compensation may be available; additional testing may be required.

Excellent Computer Skills are also highly desirable and should be noted in the supplemental questionnaire.
