The Job

Fleet Management Department is recruiting for a Motor Pool Assistant who will ensure that San Bernardino County's fleet vehicles are clean and ready for customer use. Duties include washing, vacuuming and fueling vehicles, light detailing, preparing vehicles for auction by removing all county items and removing license plates, inspecting vehicles for damage, re-parking vehicles to maximize use of space and maintain lot order, answering phones, and using the Fleet Management Information System (Faster) to dispatch and return vehicle reservations.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Fleet Management Department provides vehicles, equipment, and services to the officials and employees of the County so that they may, in turn, provide services that promote health, safety, well being, and quality of life to the residents of San Bernardino County.

Fleet Management provides services for the majority of county vehicles and equipment. Services include the acquisition, maintenance, repair, modification, and disposal of vehicles and other related equipment. San Bernardino County Sheriff and Special Districts Departments are authorized to operate their respective fleets independent of Fleet Management.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.

Physical: Incumbents must be physically able to lift 50 pounds, regularly required to stand, walk, hear, reach with hands; frequently required to stoop, kneel and crouch. Employees work outside and, in increment weather, are able to work consistent and predictable as determined by business conditions and management.

Shift: Incumbents may be required to work day, evening, or night shifts, to meet departmental needs, as required to the Department.

License: Must possess a valid California Class C driver license at time of hire. Indicate CA license number, class, and expiration date on the application and supplemental questionnaire. Proof of automobile insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is unable to consider candidates who require Visa Sponsorship at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able t o present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet ONE of the following experience options.

EXPERIENCE OPTION 1:
Six (6) months of experience dispatching vehicles and/or equipment, maintaining records and/or logs.
EXPERIENCE OPTION 2:
Six (6) months experience washing and fueling vehicles in a high volume fleet agency.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Computer skills
  • Experience in a fleet environment
  • Experience as a lot porter
