The Position

Water System Operators perform technical duties related to testing and treatment of ground and surface water, the operational duties associated with the collection and storage of ground and surface water, and the treatment and distribution of water.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

This position is with the Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Marlette Lake Section. This position will report directly to the Water System Manager. This position will perform preventative maintenance by manual and power-operated equipment, including repairs and replacement of pipeline, valves, sand traps, relief boxes, pumps, electrical equipment, generators, and slide gates. Route stream water into reservoir feed lines, and diversion dam maintenance. Maintains spillways and catchment system that includes aprons, culverts, sand traps and transmission pipeline. Controls reservoirs levels and water distribution by releasing or retaining water by opening or closing the control valves by system SCADA or manual applications. Must perform all other duties within the water system operator class series. Under direct supervision will keep accurate records of levels, flows, snow levels, lake levels, valve adjustment, daily, weekly, monthly and annual flow reports, maintenance reports on preventative maintenance performed during the year. Under direct supervision with operating heavy equipment all safety procedures will be followed. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment or water distribution system; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Some Water System Worker positions may be required to obtain a commercial driver's license with hazardous materials and tanker endorsements within 12 months of appointment. All licenses, endorsements and certifications must be issued by the State of Nevada and must be maintained as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements Working outdoors is required. Duties require walking to elevations over 6000 feet and is subject to work in inclement weather using snowmobiles and snowshoes to inspect and maintain the water system and equipment. Winter survival skills may be necessary. Working weekends may be required This position is subject to call-out or call-back. Water System Operator I positions require certification as a Water Distribution Operator, grade 1 within 12 months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
