Introduction

About the Position:

The Maintenance Tech Aquatics/Fountain performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, monitoring, and repair work on the city's decorative fountains, water features, pump houses components, and related equipment.

This position will provide healthy and safe public aquatic facilities and will be responsible for maintaining safe and aesthetically pleasing decorative fountains. Please note that this position is also required to participate on a rotational on-call schedule with availability to respond after hours and on weekends. This individual will professionally interact with the public, employees, and aquatics facilities staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)equivalent.
  • Three years of maintenance experience.
  • Must become a Certified Pool Operator within six months of hire or promotion.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.


Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Must acquire competency certifications for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Confined Space Training, respiratory protection, including lockout/tag out electrical procedures.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Follows all safety procedures and practices and performs safety audits.
  • Performs work on all mechanical components such as: motors, piping, lighting, filters, chemical feed systems, automated controllers, foggers systems, and water softeners.
  • Removes leaves and other debris daily from fountains. Back washes and cleans filters, strainer baskets, skimmers, vacuums and drains fountains as necessary or scheduled.
  • Operates, calibrates, and repairs automated controllers and remote chemical feed systems.
  • Inspects, identifies, and corrects structural/operational problems and safety hazards. Safely handles hazardous chemicals on a regular basis.


Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Work performed in various maintenance settings and field situations.
  • Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving. Work sometimes involves: climbing ladders and working at heights greater than ten (10) feet, bending and stooping repeatedly, lifting arms above head, and moderate muscular exertion and lifting.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant odors.
  • Visual and muscular dexterity to operate: equipment, hand tools, computer, telephone, and two-way radio.
  • Skillfully maneuver small objects.
  • Operate and use carpentry, masonry, construction, maintenance tools, medium and heavy equipment including: concrete mixer, concrete saw, concrete grinder, chop saws, skip loaders, and other types of concrete finishing tools.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Sit for extended periods of time while driving a City vehicle or equipment maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area.
  • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
  • Positions assigned to maintenance/repair of Aquatics or Fountains may be required to work: weekends, evenings, holidays, and on-call.
