Job Description

Job Summary

The Human Resources Department will be accepting online applications on one day only: Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Develops, coordinates and implements public information and communication activities for an assigned Department.

Note: Effective June 30, 2024, this position will be eligible to receive a 2% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

Note: The current opening is in the Library Department.

Representative Duties

Collaborates with departmental staff to assess, plan, develop and lead the implementation of short and long term multi-platform marketing strategies for programs or activities within a Department.

Provides technical communications expertise and recommendations to division level staff who are responsible for program delivery.

Develops and oversees a web content management system for the Department to ensure that webpages are reviewed and regularly updated to reflect Department's programs and priorities and ensures compliance with applicable policies.

Drafts and edits content for web, fliers, presentations, social media, surveys and other communication platforms assuring effectiveness, clarity and a high standard of quality.

Serves as departmental liaison with the City's Office of Communications or its equivalent.

Solicits bids, evaluates proposals, selects and provides direction to designers and related marketing consultants.

Collects and analyzes data including preparation of reports pertaining to responsiveness of division/departmental specific marketing approaches.

Evaluates and monitors effectiveness of marketing strategies in collaboration with departmental staff.

Within assigned Department, oversees quality control of internal and external communications.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Knowledge of:

Marketing principles, methods and techniques.

Communication mediums including familiarity with search engine optimization.

Applicable desktop publishing and related computer applications.

Effective public relations strategies.

Effective customer services techniques.

Ability to:

Provide leadership and direction on departmental marketing strategies in alignment with city goals and policies.

Collaborate with staff who deliver programs and services to develop materials and key messages that effectively communicate activities internally and to the general public.

Analyze data, conduct research and make recommendations for specific marketing approaches.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain positive working relationships with City staff, elected and appointed officials, other agencies, community members, organizations and businesses.

Provide effective customer service.

Skill in:

Project management.

Effective writing, editing and verbal communication skills.

Judgement and creative problem solving in collaboration with others.

Education, Training and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Public or Business Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a closely related field.

Three years of recent, paid work experience performing marketing and public information activities including content management and development, website oversight and data analysis.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid Class C driver license
