POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

The City of Westminster is seeking a technologically savvy, customer service-oriented Library Associate Substitute for Interlibrary Loan (ILL). The Collection Management Library Associate Substitute position will provide uninterrupted lending and borrowing ILL service for the Westminster community during planned and unplanned leave of the ILL Library Associate. This role works within the City's Library Services Division in the Collection Management work area at the College Hill Library. Comprehensive training in ILL practices will be provided - no previous experience in ILL services necessary.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. Starting wages are negotiable and dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Under the general supervision of the Collection Management Coordinator:
  • Complete training on all ILL job functions
  • Maintain new skills and demonstrate consistent ability to perform all ILL tasks, including:
    • Process ILL borrowing requests from library patrons using OCLC WorldCat and Xataface
    • Process ILL lending requests from partner libraries
    • Accurately and quickly receive, circulate, and return ILL materials using the library state courier and USPS.
2. Previous knowledge in or ability to learn procedures and computer systems, including:
  • Westminster Public Library circulation procedures and policies
  • Horizon

  • Xataface
3. Maintain punctual attendance
4. Communicate necessary information professionally to ILL associate, WPL staff, and patrons by email and/or phone

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses and Certifications
Preferred :
  • Graduation from a two-year college or university
  • Experience working in a public library setting
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.

Physical Requirements
Work performed is physical in nature, and involves sufficient physical strength and stamina to:
  • Sit frequently in one area for the length of a shift
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity with constant light grasp and occasional firm grasp, pinching, and fine motor skills to package and unpackage materials (books, DVDs, CDs, etc.) and process materials for circulation
  • Perform constant, acute near reading of computer screens, shipping labels, and identifying information on library materials
  • Occasionally crouch, squat, bend, and twist to sort and arrange ILL materials
  • Occasionally lift up to forty (40) pounds from ground to waist to move materials; occasionally push and/or pull of cart of up to 150 pounds throughout a public library

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is constantly performed indoors in the staff area of the public library. This position requires working independently in a quiet environment with long periods of focus and attention to detail.

Required Materials and Equipment
This position requires the use of computer terminals and databases, including online searching. Other equipment includes, but is not limited to telephones, printers, photocopiers, barcode scanners, postage machines, stamps, and other physical processing equipment.
