POSITION OVERVIEW :

Under general supervision, plan, schedule and perform tasks in the assembly, repair and maintenance of complex or intricate electromechanical equipment such as Passenger Boarding Bridges, 400hz ground power systems, and Baggage Handling Equipment.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Conducts routine inspections of equipment.
2. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
3. Performs electromechanical repairs to complex equipment.
4. Modifies or refurbishes equipment.
5. Estimates time, labor and materials for budget or billing purposes.
6. Performs welding, braising or fabrication of some parts.
7. Maintains technical data on equipment to be service.

ASSESSMENT :

A skills assessment will be required for this position.

TRAVEL :

If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL :

This position is categorized as an Essential Personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK :

Top candidate will be subject to a minimum 10 year criminal background check and security threat assessment.

LANGUAGE :

Must have the ability to read, write, and fluently speak in English.

WORK HOURS :

Shift may change according to departmental needs. Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work

SHIFT INCENTIVE :

Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.

OVERTIME :

Overtime may be required with or without notice.

Pay Range
$27.16 - $32.87

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Develops weekly schedules for periodic maintenance and troubleshooting. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. Conducts routine inspections. Maintains inventory of parts. Records work performed and parts used for billing purposes. Performs electromechanical repairs to complex equipment. Communicates with equipment users regarding schedule of periodic maintenance and other maintenance needs. Modifies or refurbishes equipment. May perform welding, braising, or fabrication of some parts. Performs preventive maintenance activities on Airline Equipment per specifications. Installs, troubleshoots and repairs electronic equipment. Operates and repairs test equipment. Calibrates and maintains equipment at and between control center and remote site. Researches and orders electronic components and maintain parts inventory. Maintains, tests, troubleshoots, repairs and calibrates video graphic displays and video display terminals, printed circuit boards, printers and two-way radio communications systems. Replaces defective components and wiring and adjust mechanical parts using hand tools soldering iron.

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of symbols used in engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, or schematics.
  • Knowledge of basic operations of small electric motors and pneumatic or hydraulic pumps.
  • Knowledge of safety in repair of energized electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in performing electromechanical equipment and component repair.
  • Knowledge of lock out/tag out procedures for removing equipment from service for maintenance
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in city practice, policy and procedures.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to track and execute periodic maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to test and calibrate equipment or controls to close tolerance.
  • Ability to read and follow written specifications for procedures for assembly or repair.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
