Graduate Engineer A:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
None

Graduate Engineer B:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with at least two (2) years of engineering experience.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Texas: Engineer - In Training Certification.

Engineer A:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas

Position Overview

Working as part of the Water Resources Team in the Systems Planning Division, this position will support a variety of water resources planning and implementation efforts in the context of climate adaptation, community resilience, racial equity, and environmental justice. This work will most notably include implementation of and updates to Water Forward, Austin’s 100-year Integrated Water Resource Plan. Key duties of this position will include:
  • Project management of engineering, evaluation, planning, and analysis projects related to future water supply and drought response strategies, water rights, and/or water infrastructure
  • Engineering, planning, data analysis, spatial analysis, and technical research work related to water resources planning and supply projects using GIS and various databases
  • Providing guidance, review, and input to water modeling results, primarily including surface water availability modeling and possibly including groundwater availability modeling, water quality, or other modeling
  • Review, negotiation, and support for water supply contracts and water rights applications and related documents
  • Coordination activities with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and support for Boards and Commission, Council, and community engagement related to water resources planning


This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:
  • Graduate Engineer A: $33.05 to $42.14 per hour
  • Graduate Engineer B: $35.04 to $44.67 per hour
  • Engineer A: $38.97 to $50.67 per hour
