Pay Range: $39.58 -$51.45/hr.

Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call back hours, nights, weekends, holidays and will participate in an on-call rotation schedule.

A Water Systems Superintendent position is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department / Field Operations Division in Wastewater. The Field Operations Division is a 24/7 operation and is the largest division of the Water Department and an integral function of the maintenance of the City of Fort Worth’s infrastructure. This position is responsible for directing the repair and maintenance activities of the wastewater collection system and maintaining close to 4,000 miles of wastewater pipeline. Providing high-level management of 154 personnel, responsible for regulatory protocols for AWWA, TCEQ, EPA, and other agencies. The position is responsible for oversight of a budget of over 22 million dollars. Will coordinate with Capital Delivery along with other departments and outside entities on large infrastructure projects. Responsibility includes quality control of repair and maintenance efforts and coordinating with asset management of the Wastewater infrastructure. Works with customers to negotiate and resolve sensitive and complicated issues. Review plans and monitor construction progress for wastewater projects, perform research and analysis for various construction, repair, and regulatory issues as they arise, and provide emergency response as it relates to the water and wastewater systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil or electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field.
  • Six (6) years of increasing responsible experience in sewer utility administration and wastewater collection operations and maintenance is required.
  • Minimum of Two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility is required.
  • Possession of a TCEQ Type III Wastewater Collection System Operator license is required.
  • Valid Driver's License.


The Water Systems Superintendent - Wastewater job responsibilities include:
  • Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
  • Assumes management responsibility for assigned services and activities of the wastewater collection system including planning and supervision to accomplish the construction, operation, and maintenance of sewer mains while serving as a liaison for the division with other divisions, departments, outside agencies, and customers to resolve complex and sensitive issues.
  • Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned wastewater operations and programs; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
  • Continuously monitors and evaluates the quality, responsiveness, efficiency, and effectiveness of assigned wastewater programs, service delivery methods, and procedures; works with employees on the continuous improvement of wastewater services.
  • Participates in the development and administration of the division's annual budget; participates in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; implements adjustments.
