Type of Appointment: Full-time, Management Personnel Plan (MPP II)

Anticipated Salary Range: $90,000 - $112,000 annually; Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, including some evenings and weekends when required for donor development, business cultivation meetings, and fundraising activities.

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Division of University Advancement's primary purpose is to enhance the private support and knowledge of the university. Central Development manages programs, events, and activities that stimulate the involvement and interest of alumni, friends, parents, corporations, and foundations to develop relationships which cultivate and foster relationships and stimulate giving to the university. University Advancement manages the operational requirements of the Cal Poly Pomona Philanthropic Foundation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Annual Giving
  • Responsible for implementing a comprehensive, multi-channel annual giving program including direct mail, email, social media, web, phone, video, and in-person strategies.
  • Develop annual fund goals each year for all constituent groups and set long-term benchmarks for success.
  • Provide leadership for the CPP Giving Day and crowdfunding strategies, including oversight of software platform and training ambassadors. Provide input toward the development of campaign materials, prepare annual solicitations calendar to be coordinated with development officers, alumni officers, alumni relations, and strategic communications.
  • Develop and manage the Annual Giving budget and expenses.
  • Develop and implement strategies to secure first-time donors, engage/re-engage current and lapsed donors, increase the total number of donors each year, raise donor gift levels, and bring pledge fulfillment rates in alignment with national averages.
  • Create and implement philanthropy strategies to engage other key groups of the Cal Poly Pomona community: faculty/staff/faculty emeriti, students, parents, friends, and other special initiatives.

Prospect Cultivation, Solicitation, and Donor Stewardship
  • Carry a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects (25-50 prospects). Personally maintain a donor portfolio of top annual giving prospects capable of giving between $1,000 and $24,999 annually. Conduct face-to-face visits and solicitation of four and five figure gifts.
  • Provide oversight and management of the Associate Director of Leadership Annual Giving and Associate Director of Digital Engagement. Plan and implement strategies for soliciting leadership-level gifts from targeted pools of prospects with interests related to any of the CPP’s colleges, athletics, student affairs, or special programs.
  • Collaborate with other members of the University Advancement division and volunteers to identify and research top annual giving donors and other prospects to create solicitation strategies for building the major gift pipeline of donors.
  • Directing the Leadership Annual Giving Program - Provide oversight for the President’s Circle giving program ($2,500+ annually). Create plans to grow and support the program by tracking progress with key metrics. Create and implement an Annual Giving Leadership Giving Program, including a volunteer structure and recognition society. Assist with volunteer leadership committees, as assigned.
  • Work with the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship and other University Advancement professionals to advise and coordinate a comprehensive stewardship and recognition plan, including events, to maintain and grow the level of donor engagement with the University Plan.

Management
  • Oversee the annual fund budget, including management of assigned team members and student employees.
  • The Director of Leadership Annual Giving is part of the advancement team and needs to be familiar with the primary development needs of the University and its various colleges and programs to ensure that wide range of donor investment opportunities are maximized. The Director participates in divisional strategic planning, goal setting, retreats, event planning, project status sessions, represents the department at professional and University meetings, communicates goals and priorities to the various constituencies of the annual giving program, and maintains the high standards of campus development procedures and protocols that comprise the approach to the division.

Annual Giving Data Analytics and Reports
  • Utilizing best practices and in compliance with IRS regulations, work with the advancement services team to formulate reports to track giving trends and metrics which will improve workflow and efficiency of the annual giving efforts.
  • In coordination with the advancement services team, monitor and ensure the processing of annual giving gifts, pledges, matching gifts, and pledge reminders.
  • In coordination with the advancement services team, oversee annual giving list requests to streamline and maximize the impact of annual giving segmentation of constituent communications.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • 3-5 years of experience coordinating or managing a successful annual giving program, preferably in an educational setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage a diverse group of staff in a team environment. Ability to implement donor solicitations to individuals support on a broad scale.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituent, alumni and student population, and an ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated accepted business and professional etiquette with the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when required for donor development, business cultivation meetings, and fundraising activities.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Educational background in administration, accounting, communications or marketing. Five plus years of experience coordinating an Annual Giving program. Experienced user of Raiser’s Edge fundraising database software and CampusCall software
