The Recreation Specialist position develops, promotes, schedules, and supervises parks and recreation programs and events. This position also assists in the publicity of activities to foster involvement for programs, provides support to assigned management staff, and supervises staff, participants, and volunteers within their assigned area(s) of focus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grows and facilitates a formal training program for new and continuing staff; recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
  • Develops, organizes, schedules, and supervises assigned programs and events offered by Olathe Parks & Recreation including aquatics, recreation programs, and instructional classes.
  • Prepares and distributes program marketing material including flyers, schedules of events and brochures.
  • Assists with participants as necessary; responds to questions regarding assigned programs; assists with special programs and events as assigned.


Qualifications

Experience:Two years of increasingly responsible experience in recreation programming is required. Supervisory experience is preferred. Must have intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Forms.

Education:A bachelors degree with major course work in recreation administration, leisure services, or a related field is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required. Specific certifications and licenses relevant to program area responsibilities may be required.
