Essential Job Functions

A Garage Attendant I is responsible for a combination of the following essential job functions:
  • Drives vehicles from assigned parking stalls to designated service areas.
  • Regularly fuels and washes (Exterior/Interior) of designated department vehicles.
  • Performs general service and maintenance on pool and executive vehicles that include sedans, light-duty pickup trucks, full-size pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, mini-vans, and full-size vans, electric passenger vehicles and hybrid vehicles to ensure safe operation.
  • Checks and inspects gas powered, electric, hybrid and alternative fueled vehicles fluid levels, which includes but not limited to engine oil, coolant and transmission fluid.
  • Checks tire pressure, power steering and windshield washer fluids.
  • Notifies supervisor of any broken or malfunctioning components.
  • Completes inspection.
  • Regularly inspect the state of charge on Electric and Hybrid vehicles. Place EV and Hybrid Vehicles to charge, monitor and report the state of charge.


Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of experience servicing automotive vehicles*.
*Experience servicing automotive vehicles is defined as changing engine oil, preventative maintenance inspections, checking and topping off fluids, replacing light bulbs, replacing wiper blades, replacing air filters, replacing fuel filters and tire rotations. Completing tire repairs, plug or patch and relearning and/ or resetting TPMS lights. Completing brake inspections and changing brake pads and rotors.

PHYSICAL EXPECATIONS:
Physical Class III - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform related job-related essential functions.
Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:

This examination will consist of multiple-choice and/or simulation assessments weighted 100% measuring: Achievement, Responsibility, Safety Orientation, Thoroughness, and Following Instructions.

MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS AND SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE ( 12 ) MONTHS.

Candidates must meet the Minimum Requirements and achieve a combined passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.

The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
