The Job

The Department of Aging and Adult Services/Office of the Public Guardian is recruiting for a Senior Deputy Public Guardian to train, lead and mentor Deputy Public Guardians; manage complex cases which require coordination of multiple factors, and unique and extenuating circumstances; serve as a conservator of conservatee's property and financial assets; and coordinate legal or social services on behalf of conservatee; and serve as a Court Officer, which requires attending court hearings on behalf of conservatees. Incumbent will also be responsible for duties and tasks related to both LPS and Probate conservatorships.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Background Investigation: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, credit check, and/or medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing.

Working Conditions: Incumbents in this class will occasionally work in odorous, pest-infested areas. They may also be required to lift and carry conservatee's personal belongings, which may weigh up to sixty (60) pounds.

Travel: Travel throughout the State is required. Occasional out-of-state travel is required and applicants must be able to travel by airplane. Incumbents may be required to make provision for transportation and to use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Work Schedule: Work schedule may require availability for after hour referrals, night duty, and weekend shifts.

CA Certification Training: Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid certification as a Public Guardian as established by the California Association of Public Administrators, Public Guardians, and Public Conservators (CAPAPGPC). Certification must be obtained within four (4) years of hire per Section 2923 of the California Probate Code or the incumbent may be terminated.

Work Location: Incumbents will be assigned to work at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) located at 686 E. Mill St. San Bernardino, CA 92415-0647. Office location may change due to space and department operational needs. New office may be located in the East (San Bernardino/Colton) or West (Fontana/Rancho) Valley of San Bernardino County.

Minimum Requirements

Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Administration, Behavioral/Social Science, or a closely related field.

-AND-

Experience:
One (1) year of full-time experience equivalent to a Deputy Public Guardian with the County of San Bernardino. Equivalent experience includes the arrangement for custodial care and administration of estates of gravely disabled or other incompetent persons appointed to the Public Guardian by the court. Note: Experience as a Deputy Public Guardian Trainee is not considered qualifying.

Substitution: Four (4) additional years of full-time experience as described above may substitute for the education requirement.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with law enforcement agencies, psychiatric and acute care hospital settings, and the legal/court system. Certification as a Public Guardian as established by CAPAGPC is desirable.
