Job Description

The Job

San Bernardino County is recruiting for Plumbers who install, maintain, inspect, and repair plumbing equipment/components that carry water, gas, sewage, fuel, oxygen, and other systems located in and around hospital, commercial, and industrial buildings; perform miscellaneous pipe and drainage work; and utilize various plumbing trade tools. Additional duties include planning and laying out alterations and new plumbing systems; reading and interpreting building plans, blue prints, sketches, and piping diagrams; estimating labor and material costs for plumbing jobs; and maintaining accurate records of time for labor, materials, equipment, and work status.

The resulting list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur throughout the County in the departments of Project & Facilities Management, Sheriff's, and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Current vacancy exists with Project & Facilities Management Department.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history & education check, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.

Physical Requirements: This position requires lifting of heavy objects, working in confined spaces and squatting, climbing, kneeling ,and stooping.
License: Eligible candidates must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license and automobile insurance. Employees in this class may be required to use a personal vehicle for transportation. Mileage reimbursement is available.
Shifts: The County has facilities, including Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, that operate 24/7; work schedule may vary to ensure coverage in case of emergencies.
Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates may qualify through one of the following options:

Option 1:
Four (4) years of journey-level, full-time equivalent experience installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing plumbing components in large institutional, industrial, or hospital buildings .

Option 2: Possession of a Plumbing Journeyman's License issued by LA City, or C36 Contractor's License issued by CA Department of Consumer Affairs Contractors State License Board.

Option 3: Successful completion of a formal (minimum 4-year) plumbing apprenticeship program resulting in journey-level status. Indicate apprenticeship provider and dates of the program, including when apprenticeship was completed on the application.

Note: Residential and food service plumbing experience is not considered qualifying.
