Job Description

Location: 4615 W Lakeview, Stillwater

Salary: up to $41,019.26 based on education and experience.

Full Time /Part Time: Full Time

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday

Primary Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Position Description:

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for supporting laboratory operations, performing maintenance functions, and completing non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of professional staff.

This is the basic level where incumbents perform routine repetitive tasks of a non-technical nature involving general support, housekeeping and maintenance operations in a laboratory. Duties include accessioning clinical specimens, cleaning work areas and equipment, storing supplies and distributing a variety of items throughout the laboratory. Incumbents will be closely supervised while the work is being performed.

Duties:

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
  • Conducts non-technical routine laboratory procedures and tests under the direction of professional staff.
  • Accessions specimens received by opening, sorting, numbering, and arranging specimens for laboratory examination.
  • Determines specimen acceptability per laboratory guidelines.
  • Enters required specimen information in our laboratory management system.
  • Scans in all barcoded samples and verifies consistent patient information.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.
  • Good practice and knowledge of proper hazardous material shipping requirements is essential to process specimens to be sent out for further testing.
  • Maintains laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagents. Helps enter inventory information in our management system.
  • Performs routine laboratory procedures such as preparation of media and basic preparation of slides and smears.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records.
  • Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification:

Requirements at this level are high school diploma, associate degree preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position is set in a laboratory environment. While performing the required duties for this position one must be able to lift forty pounds and stand for long periods of time as well working with infectious or hazardous material. Medical evaluation for respiratory fitness is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirement for all persons required to wear a respirator to perform their job duties.

This position is not eligible for Telework and is subject to OSDH policy and supervisor’s discretion.
